Speakers In Viet Nam

This is one of the special goverment helpers which repeats announcements time after time without tiring.

Speaker

It usually starts early in the morning for an hour, and is sometimes repeated in the afternoon and evening. But in the evening, they usually have a special story with a great warm voice. It's helful in some ways but it is very annoying because sometimes it's on too early in the weekend when you need time to relax or for a long sleep after the working week

so it's like a radio but you don't have the liberty of shutting it off if you don't like it, I can see how that can get very annoying.

i come to your blog every now and then, but this is my first type commenting. I also wanted to tell you a long time ago that this is a great blog, especially for those who don't get to see Vietnam, we get to experience the almost everyday that you are experiening, it's great! keep up the good work!

We don't seem to have this service in my neighborhood of Ho Chi Minh City. There are plenty of other noises around our hem to make up for it, though.

I use to kick about in a village in the south of France that had a simular arangement. Because there were only 400 people in the village the announcements consisted of things like:

"Allo, Allo, someone has left a blue jumper at the cafe de sport."

"Allo, Allo, 25 cents off saucisse at Kabanals."

How annoying! Put lots of cotton in your ears!

That does sound like it could get annoying; although, I live near a firehouse and rarely even think about it when the fire whistle goes.

ha ha ha. We have stuff like this down in India too, but they're visible only during the state elections, mostly fixed atop a vehicle, and spokespersons for parties spouting nonesense. The weird thing is a lot of people buy this hogwash. otherwise the governemnt wouldn't exist in the first place.

I discover your blog with a great pleasure!
With my wife, we went three times to the Nam Vietnamese soldier, in particular in Hanoï Nous return certainly there in October 2006.
We will try to find the restaurant of which you speak with with dimensions about the red River, the Large Market, station and bridge Paul Doumerc?

Do they have this in Hoi An, too?

They don't have these in every neighbourhood in Hanoi. Aren't they run by the People's Committee of the neighbourhood you are in? My neighbourhood was thankfully spared the noise. Apparently many of them also announce the names of anyone in the area arrested/convicted of crimes.

I think this is only in Hanoi, in Saigon, I have not seen any in my neighbourhood. It's just of way of giving info (bad or good?) depending on judgment of every Vietnamese

Hmmm! That was very interesting (and strange). And how annoying. I guess you could get use to it after a while and probably don't even notice it. I use to work in an office close to the railroad track. In the beginning, I thought it was so loud and that the train would come off the track and fall on top of our vehicles in the parking lot. But after a month, I didn't even notice the train noise anymore.

I heard this in Hanoi. I was visiting from the US. What exactly are they saying?

Ugh, those loudspeakers must surely be a huge annoyance! When I was in Morocco there were early morning prayer calls and they were so loud that they could almost wake the dead. Thank God I'm not living in a Muslim country because that alone would drive me crazy.

Hello your site as absolutely amazing and very informative. I came across your site while searching for information about Nha Trang and the surrounding area.

The reason we are looking for information is because my wife and I run a small wedding planning company in Vancouver Canada and we are working with a Canadian couple to help plan their wedding.

The wedding will take place on January 2nd 2007 on the beaches of Nha Trang. They are planning on having 20 or 25 family members attending to celebrate their marriage.

I was hoping that you might be able to provide us with a little help and information. We have found it very difficult to find people that do photography, flowers, music and other things that happen at weddings. If you have time could we chat via email about these different services. We can be reached at info@lotusevents.ca. Any help or information you can provide would be wonderful.

Thank you

Rob Tucker
