Pavement Pounders

Banana shop

As in other cities in Viet Nam, Ho Chi Minh City also has so many walking vendors around the place, their calls and signs attracting trade.

Coconut juice

While driving along the street on a hot day, stopping on the side of the road and asking for a soft drink, coconut juice or tea would be a good idea.

xoi

Hungry and wanna try some sticky rice with different meats or sausages? How about some dried onion? Why not?

Banh ngot

Fruit is here, cheap and good, come on !!!

Sau Rieng

Durian, great smell, good price, try before you buy, no good, no buy !!!!

Banh

Hot homemade pancakes, 1000Vnd for one. Try now before sold out!!!!

Hoa qua

Fresh fruit is the most common form of street business in Ho Chi Minh City. The fruit is ready to eat straight away and looks very clean.

I always try the street snacks and fruits, they are great and cheap. I think you guys should try all of these thing if you are ever in Viet Nam. Highly recommended!

Tu, I love your pictures of the fresh fruit! My two favorites from VN are qua na (custard/sugar apple) and thang long (dragon fruit)--can't get them here:(

God,

I tried a fruit that I think was called custard fruit. Little sections with seeds in each. Tasted like custard but not too sweet. Very good I must say.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment!

I really like visiting your blog. I am learning a lot about my homeland and I keep asking my parents about the pictures you post. I hope that I can go back to visit someday... maybe even visit Phung-Hiep where I was born? I think that would be fun!

mmmm... fresh fruit looks wonderful! Are these fruits from local crops, or are they harvested elsewhere and transported in to the city?

Your photos are amazing and of course I have Vietnam as one of the places I would like to visit before I die, hopefully with my parents.

Interesting. The street snacks and fruits looks similar to what we have over here in Malaysia.

Street food is great.
I always buy fresh fruits from the roadside stalls :)

Tu, you are right that westerners should try food from these vendors. But first, we westerners have to get over our squeemishness about the cleanliness or lack thereof -- I didn't on my last trip last year and missed out on all this. This year, now that I have relocated to HCMC, I am trying everything and loving it. I figure the germs just average themselves out and my body is adjusting to them fine.
